Details:
The cup from Grootenburg pottery – probably designed by Paul Dresler – dates from the 1930s. Two cups of the same shape, but each with different glazes, are illustrated in the book “Paul Dresler (1879-1950) und die Töpferei Grootenburg” on page 42, and are also dated to the 1930’s. [1]

The ceramic cup offered here has a small fine hairline crack on the top rim running on the outside and inside – that is, continuous. This crack was restored by Robert Züblin using the Gintsugi repair method. Gintsugi is a subspecies of Kintsugi restoration, which originated in Japan, and the metal used in Gintsugi is real silver, not real gold. “Gin” stands for “silver,” while “tsugi” stands for “to join.” The real silver was in the form of powder sprinkled on urushi lacquer previously applied to the crack.
