The ceramic painter Friedrich Ernst Frank lived and worked in Steffisburg near Thun (Switzerland) all his life. He worked as a ceramic painter and designer for the Johann Wanzenried ceramic manufactory in Steffisburg.

For a long time, Friedrich Ernst Frank was the most important designer, particularly for figurative, floral (plants and flowers) and heraldic (coats of arms) motifs on Thun majolica ceramics.
