Rudolf Tschan was a Swiss landscape and portrait painter and art teacher who was born on 19 November 1848 in Hilterfingen (Canton of Bern, Switzerland) and died on 4 March 1919 in Sigriswil (Canton of Bern, Switzerland.
Rudolf Tschan was nicknamed the “Lake Thun Anker” in reference to the famous portrait painter Albert Anker (* 1831 , † 1910). Like Anker, Tschan also painted portraits of children and the elderly, as well as scenes from everyday farm life, in the realist style.
