Häufig gestellte Fragen zu Kintsugi Zürich (FAQs)

After a kintsugi repair, the following care tips should be observed when handling the repaired item:

    1. The repaired item should not be exposed to direct sunlight, as urushi does not tolerate strong UV radiation well.
    2. T he repaired piece should not be washed in the dishwasher, but rather carefully by hand. The repaired areas should not be scrubbed. A sponge should not be used on the repaired areas either, but rather cleaned with your fingertips if necessary. Harsh cleaning agents should also be avoided.
    3. You should also avoid soaking the repaired items in water or other liquids for too long.
    4. You should also avoid scratching the repaired areas with hard objects, such as cutlery. When storing the items in a cupboard or on a shelf, for example, care should be taken to ensure that the repaired areas do not come into contact with other crockery in order to avoid damage due to the hardness of the other objects.
    5. Kintsugi-repaired pieces are also not suitable for microwaves and ovens and cannot withstand fire. These pieces should also not be placed in the refrigerator.

Kintsugi repair in Zurich takes between 8 and 12 weeks. The long duration is due to the fact that the urushi lacquer has to harden for a certain amount of time after each step of the process. The duration also depends on the type of damage that needs to be repaired, i.e. whether it involves repairing a crack, remodelling missing parts and/or gluing broken pieces together. The size and complexity of the damage also affect the duration of the kintsugi repair.
