Details:
The glaze of this ceramic bowl by Jan Bontjes van Beek looks like a black oil spot glaze. But in fact the glaze is a mixture of blue, green and yellow. The “oil spots” are only very subtle on the glaze and are sometimes only very sporadic.
The bowl probably dates from around 1963. In the catalogue of the Bontjes exhibition, which took place from December 1977 to January 1978 in the Akademie der Künste in Berlin, a bowl with a similar shape is dated 1963 [1]. In addition, the catalogue says that that bowl was produced in Hamburg, which is why this bowl here can also be assumed to have come from Hamburg.
