The special exhibition of pottery by potter Otto Meier at the Grosse Kunstschau Worpswede has been extended until March 6, 2022.

60 pottery pieces by Otto Meier

A total of sixty vessel sculptures by potter Otto Meier will be on display at the Grosse Kunstschau in Worpswede. The ceramics are shown in the old salesroom of the Große Kunstschau, which was built by Bernhard Hoetger in 1927.

Bernhard Hoetger (* 1874, † 1949) was an architect, sculptor, craftsman and painter. Hoetger introduced Otto Meier to ceramics in 1925. Actually, Otto Meier had studied architecture until then.

The exhibition “Otto Meier: Vessels” is organized in cooperation with Otto Meier’s daughter, Susanne Meier. Most of the works come from the estate of the potter, which Susanne Meier makes available for the exhibition.

Extension of the exhibition

Originally, the exhibition was to last until March 7, 2021. However, the exhibition at the Große Kunstschau Worpswede will be extended until March 6, 2022. Worpswede – known for its artists’ colony – is located northeast of Bremen.

Otto Meier is no stranger in Worpswede. Since his studio of the “sieben Faulen” in the Böttcherstraße in Bremen was destroyed during the Second World War, Otto Meier built himself a new workshop in nearby Worpswede in 1945.
