Details:
The Swiss painter Josef Reichlin (* 1845 in Schwyz, † 1910 in Flums) specialised in portraits, religious themes and church painting. This oil painting of a SBB conductor (also known as ticket controller or passenger attendant) was taken in 1909 from a photograph, as can be seen from the handwritten note on the back of the canvas.
On the website of a costume rental company you can see the same uniform as the one worn by the trainman in the oil painting, where this SBB uniform is entitled “SBB Conductor 1902 to 1932“.
The painting is stretched on a frame, but there is no frame around the painting.
