\nThis vase made of manganese-clay by Gerda K\u00f6rting stands out because of the hole pattern on the unglazed belly of the vase, also called R\u00e4del decoration. As it is a GDR pottery, it is possible that the aim here was to save glaze material, because certain fabrics were not available in the former GDR, at least for a time.<\/p>\n

However, it may simply have been aesthetically intended to work with structures in the clay instead of glazing the entire ceramic, especially since other members of the Saalfeld Group (Saalfelder K\u00fcnstlergruppe), which included Gerda K\u00f6rting, Karl J\u00fcttner and Gerhard D\u00f6lz, often used the same style by working a structure into the unglazed clay in the belly area of the ceramic vases instead of glaze.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
